Listening, empathic

2018 August 01 | by

Empathic listening is a behaviour typical of conscious listening, aimed at understanding both the words and the feelings of the speaker, sharing emotions without criticizing or judging. This is used when the situation has a significant emotional content, often when there is a conflict or a problem to be solved. Someone engaged in empathic listening focuses on the other person’s message and feelings, looking at the world through his/her eyes. Empathic listening is of vital importance in communication and in building personal relationships.
